A few words from Tom

I love football. I love playing it, talking about it, writing about it, thinking about it, drawing pictures about it. Some of those things I’m not very good at, and some I’m completely awful. Sadly, playing football definitely falls into the awful category. Despite an amateur career lasting 24 years, I have only one third placed trophy to cherish. And yes I know, third place trophies don’t count, but I was ten and we were unlucky and everything – one of the linesmen didn’t turn up at the semi-final and some kid’s dad ran the line. Fucking cheat.

I was always a skinny little thing as a youngster, but after the age of 20ish, with the wholehearted embrace of binge drinking and fast food, I ‘put on a bit of timber’. I discovered that contrary to my initial fears of becoming even worse at football, there was now a job I could do. I moved in from the left flank (Any English left-footed kid is made to play left-wing or left-back) into the centre. I became an enforcer. The great thing about this is you don’t have to be good at football, especially at my level, you just had to be big, strong, and fucking angry. That’s why there’s a page on this blog dedicated to footballers who played the game with a bit of a face on them – in a bit of a strop. Not all of them big guys, not all of them useless either, but all of them renowned for being, well… cunts. Actually, you get a bit of space if you’re a cunt.

There will be other articles in this blog which don’t seem to fit onto any page, they’ll just be hanging around - or you can look for them in the archive. I do have to apologise at this point, I’m shit at computers. But thankfully, not everyone is as rubbish as me. There is a little box on the right of the home page that has links to other, better designed pages.
